Prof. Dr. Thomas Franz

Dr. Thomas Franz is a professor of computer science specializing in software engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf. From 1997 to 2001, the scientist first studied computer science at Cologne University of Applied Sciences and Clemson University in South Carolina. He then went on to complete a master’s degree in applied computer science at the University of Freiburg and Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 2002 to 2005.

From June 2005 to August 2010, he was a sub-project manager for the international research project X-Media at the Institute for Web Science and Technologies at the University of Koblenz-Landau. He also received his doctorate there in November 2010.

In addition to his scientific activities, Thomas Franz founded the start-up Kreuzverweis Solutions in 2010 and served as its managing director until June 2013. From July 2013 to March 2015, he worked as a technology expert for adesso AG and, from April 2015, as head of the technology advisory board for adesso SE. In this role, he primarily supported large German companies from a wide range of industries as well as public authorities in IT strategy activities and IT projects.

His teaching and research focuses on software engineering methodology, spoftware architecture, agile software engineering and the role of artificial intelligence. For more information, check out our research interests.

Björn Salgert, M.Sc.

Björn Salgert completed his master’s degree in media informatics in December 2015. Since January 2014, he has been working as a research assistant on several research projects at the Faculty of Media and supervising courses, projects, and practical exercises in the subjects of database systems and software engineering.
